What are cookies and what are they used for?
A cookie is a text file that a website visited by the user sends to their terminal, where it is stored before being retransmitted to that site on a subsequent visit.
Cookies are distinguished:
1) according to the entity that installs them on the user’s terminal, depending on whether it is the same operator of the site that the user is visiting (so-called ‘first-party cookies’) or a different site, which installs cookies through the first site (so-called ‘third-party cookies’);
2) according to the purpose of each cookie: some cookies allow the website that installed them to remember, for example, the preferences expressed by the user while browsing or making a purchase or authenticating themselves (so-called ‘technical cookies’), while other cookies allow the website that installed them to monitor the user’s browsing, also for the purpose of sending advertising or offering services in line with the preferences expressed by the while browsing the web (so-called ‘profiling cookies’).
Technical cookies
Technical cookies are used for the sole purpose of ‘carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service’. Cookies of this type are necessary for the proper functioning of certain areas of the website. Cookies in this category include both persistent cookies and session cookies. Without these cookies, the website or certain portions of it may not function properly. Therefore, they are always used, regardless of the user’s preferences.
Cookies in this category are always sent from our domain. Technical cookies can be divided into:
- navigation or session cookies, which guarantee normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, a purchase to be made or authentication to access restricted areas);
- analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics), similar to technical cookies when used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site;
- functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (e.g. language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided to the user.
In particular, it should be noted that the Google Analytics tool used on this website collects the IP address of visitors to provide an indication of their geographical location. This method is known as IP geolocation. Google Analytics does not report information relating to the actual IP addresses of visitors. Due to the use of a method known as IP masking, Google Analytics communicates information in such a way that only part of the IP address is used for geolocation, rather than the entire address.
You can download the browser add-on to disable Google Analytics at this address https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The add-on tells the Google Analytics JavaScript code (ga.js) to indicate that information about the website visit should not be sent to Google Analytics.
The use of technical cookies does not require the consent of the data subject.
Cookies for the integration of third-party features
Cookies of this type are used to integrate third-party features into the Website (e.g. integration with social networks or advertising services). Cookies in this category may be sent from the domains of partner websites (or websites that offer the features present on the Website) and may use information about the user’s visit to show them advertisements that may be of interest to them.
Browsers are automatically set to accept cookies.
Information pursuant to Art. 13 of Reg. 2016/679/EU
With regard to the information collected by cookies installed directly by the Website, the Data Controller specifies the following:
- the data is collected only for the purposes and for the duration indicated in the table below and is processed using IT methods;
- with regard to “technical” cookies, it is reiterated that the use of such cookies does not require the user’s prior consent, as they are necessary to enable navigation within the Website and its proper functioning. If technical cookies are removed through browser settings, navigation on the Website may not be possible, in whole or in part;
- Profiling cookies are used to allow the Data Controller to know the User’s preferences and require the consent of the Data Subject.
- The data collected by first-party cookies may be disclosed to parties acting on behalf of the Data Controller as designated or authorised data processors for purposes related to those described above. With regard to such data, the user may exercise the rights referred to in Regulation 2016/679/EU, as indicated in the Information on the processing of personal data accessible via the ‘Privacy Policy’ link in the footer of the Website.
The Data Controller has appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) who can be contacted for any information and requests at the email address info@ambroservizi.it
